Okay. Let me start by saying that for the past 3 days I have been having issues with the internet. It has progressively been getting worse. It started on Tuesday where I started to notice a lag in my internet speeds. After troubleshooting the local network I was aware the issue was outside of my local network/router. So I started to run ping tests. On Tuesday I had and average packet loss of about 2-3 percent. Wednesday about 5 percent. Today I have a average packet loss of 8 percent. These numbers are just scary. I had my family across town run the tests and they had a packet loss of pretty much 0 percent. This ruled out the idea that it could be an issue with MYACTVs whole network and limited to at least my area.

So with such a high packet loss I called up MYACTV to address the issue and see if it could be resolved quickly. I should have known better. The short of it was that they had me run through the bullshit tests. Unplug the router. Unplug the cable modem. Plug them back in. Tada same fucking results. I mean come on. I called you people about packet loss and can give you specific numbers. You think I was so unintelligent as to not power cycle my equipment?!?

So at this point I start telling the “tech” that the power/Signal-to-Noise Ratio levels were well above acceptable. There is nothing wrong with my equipment. So the “tech” says to hold on while they look and see if anyone else in the area is having problems. Wouldn’t you know, they are. My area has a lot of people reporting internet troubles. Now the “tech” is saying they will try to have a service tech out today to look into the problem and that someone over 18 years old needs to be available to let them in. I of course tell this tech person that I am actually moving and will not be here tonight or tomorrow or anytime going forward for that matter. I then ask why anyone even needs to come in and she tells me that it is because they need to test the modem. -_- Every time. That is the typical MYACTV response. It must be the modem, we suggest you buy one of ours. I just told you it’s not the modem and gave you the reading, WTF are you deaf? I also state back to her that she just admitted that this was affecting my area. So the problem would be at the switch/hub for the area. Doesn’t matter. They want to come in and test the modem before they do anything.

Needless to say it seems as though this area will continue to have internet issues because MYACTV is unwilling to take client provided information and make intelligent use of it. Instead they would rather waste the clients time and try to get a few more bucks from us by buying one of their modems. I pray each day that I use MYACTV that Comcast or anyone else surrounding the area will soon come in and take over. Give us at least what we pay for. Because $50/mo for 3mb down and 0.3 up is just ridiculous.

That is my rant and rave for now. I’m sure I’ll have more tomorrow when I address the installation of the internet at the new place. I’m just sad that the new place is still in the MYACTV service area.

Well with all the changes taking affect this time of year there is the addition of me moving. This of course means that here soon I will hopefully have some pictures up of the new place. Of course this will have to wait until after I power move this week. As it is the last week in my current apartment it should be semi easy to clear out the rest of the place. We’ve moved most of the major furniture out of both the living room and one of the bedrooms. Now to move the misc items that remain in those rooms and to power move the remaining bedroom and office by Friday.

Of course the downside to moving is all the work in transferring and setting up the utilities. Which have all been setup for a Friday install except for the water. That I have to get a number for because the county website doesn’t have a direct link for the Water and Sewer department for service activation. Such an odd county we live in. They don’t even have good high speed internet. We are stuck with myactv.net which is by and far one of the slower cable high speed internet providers I’ve had the non-pleasure of knowing. I should really call up comcast to see if service is available at the new house with them.
